Sri Lanka, Aug. 9 -- Former Sri Lanka's Ambassador to the United States, Mahinda Samarasinghe, speaking to media have said that he holds no desire to re-entre active politics.

He said he resigned from his ambassador post due to personal reasons after serving for nearly five years, stressing that there was no pressure from the government to step down.

He has expressed his views after meeting the Chief Prelates of the Malwaththa and Asgiriya Chapters today.

Samarasinghe said that although he served as a Member of Parliament for 27 years, he has decided not to engage in politics any further. However, he said he remained willing to assist the government if requested to provide support on international issues.
