Sri Lanka, July 21 -- Cabinet granted approval to appoint O. T. M. I. Thilakarathne as the new Surveyor General of the Sri Lanka Survey Department.

P. K. L. S. Panduwawala, who currently serves as the Surveyor General, is scheduled to retire from public service on August 20.

Accordingly, Cabinet approval was granted to the proposal presented by the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation to appoint O. T. M. I. Thilakarathne, the senior-most officer in the Special Grade of the Sri Lanka Survey Service who currently serves as an Additional Surveyor General of the department, to the vacant position of Surveyor General with effect from August 20.
