Sri Lanka, Aug. 15 -- The Parliamentary Committee on Youth Affairs and Sports has approved a new set of regulations, prepared under the Sports Law No. 25 of 1973.

The regulations are scheduled to be debated in Parliament in the coming week.

The approval was granted at a committee meeting held in Parliament on August 7.

Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Sunil Kumara Gamage said the new regulations were created to address shortcomings in previous laws.

The overall goal is to improve sports federations and advance sports in general.

The new regulations cap the maximum term for the President, Secretary, and Treasurer of a sports federation at eight years, with elections required every two years.
