Sri Lanka, Sept. 24 -- There were no regulations to monitor or regulate buying and selling of cryptocurrency in Sri Lanka, Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe said.

"The CBSL cannot say that cryptocurrency is legal or illegal. However, in Sri Lanka, the only legally accepted currency is the Sri Lankan Rupee. No one can use Crypto to receive or make payments, and the local banking sector, too, does not accept Crypto," he alerted.

Governor, however, said that people can make use of crypto for savings but there may be a risk element.
