Sri Lanka, July 13 -- The Ministry of Health focused attention on developing a performance-based system to evaluate health professionals.

Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni stated that a specific, recognised mechanism to evaluate professionals who work with dedication beyond their line of duty does not exist within the health ministry yet, and discussions are currently underway regarding such an introduction.

The deputy minister made these remarks when questioned on whether the Ministry of Health will take steps to appreciate the health staff, including doctors, who contributed to performing the world's first-ever separation surgery of conjoined twins alongside a kidney transplant at the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital.
