Sri Lanka, Sept. 20 -- A new three-storey surgical and clinical complex, built with a grant from the Chinese government, has been opened at the Pottuvil Base Hospital.

The building was officially opened by the Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr Nalinda Jayatissa.

The new complex cost Rs.1 billion to construct, with an additional Rs.50 million spent on equipment.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister said that 12 of the 13 hospitals being developed under a project with Chinese aid have now been completed.

He added that only the Kalawana Hospital remains under construction.
