New bill to protect the State from terrorism to be presented to Parliament
Sri Lanka, Aug. 18 -- Cabinet approval has been granted to present to Parliament, the new 'Protection of the State from Terrorism' bill, which was prepared to address the shortcomings of the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act No. 48 of 1979.
The initial draft for this new law was prepared by a technical expert committee, and policy approval for it was granted at the Cabinet meeting held on August 10.
In accordance with the Cabinet approval, the bill prepared by the Legal Draftsman has received the clearance of the Attorney General.
