Sri Lanka, March 11 -- Close to 15,000 power outages occurred across the island due to the ongoing strike initiated by electricity unions, according to union statements. This trade union action, involving 24 unions, began as a symbolic strike the day before yesterday(9) afternoon, following concerns that employees remaining after the liquidation of the Electricity Board received no appointment letters or information regarding their future placements.

Union representatives engaged in discussions yesterday with heads of four new companies, including their chairpersons, regarding these issues. Those talks failed, leading the unions to decide to continue the symbolic strike indefinitely.
