Sri Lanka, Aug. 25 -- Nearly 1,000 individuals have been arrested in Sri Lanka as part of a nationwide anti-drug operation carried out on Saturday (24), according to police.

Authorities say a total of 992 suspects were taken into custody following the inspection of 26,688 individuals across the country.

Among those detained were 26 people allegedly directly involved in criminal activities, as well as 342 individuals with outstanding warrants.

The large-scale operation also saw checks carried out on 10,694 vehicles and 7,928 motorcycles.

According to police, the operation involved a combined force of 6,273 personnel from the Sri Lanka Police, the Police Special Task Force, and the country's tri-forces.
