Sri Lanka, Oct. 22 -- The Department of National Museums has faced criticism in a recent audit concerning its decision to print large quantities of admission tickets without proper consideration for visitor numbers, leading to what the report described as uneconomical spending.

The audit highlighted that over a three-year span, from 2022 to 2024, ticket books were commissioned in batches of between 500 and 2,000, without correlation to the actual annual demand seen at other museums.

Specifically, the report detailed the costs involved: in 2022, a total of Rs. 1,698,148 was spent to print just 100 tickets.

This was followed in 2023 by an expenditure of Rs. 2,576,061 for 3,500 tickets.
