Sri Lanka, Nov. 8 -- A group of Buddhist monks and laypeople continued their Satyagraha protest in Anuradhapura, despite a court order requiring them to leave the sacred area around the Ruwanweli Maha Seya and the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi.

The campaign began yesterday (07) at the Dansal premises near the Ruwanweli Maha Seya, with the participants opposing the Anuradhapura Sacred City Development Plan. The group includes Venerable Balangoda Kassapa Thero.

Tensions arose yesterday afternoon when protesters attempted to put up a temporary structure at the site, resulting in a confrontation between the group and police.
