Sri Lanka, April 26 -- The misappropriation of 2.5 million US dollars from the General Treasury is a fraud committed with the full approval of high-ranking officials rather than a genuine hacker attack. United People's Front Leader Patali Champika Ranawaka emphasized this during a joint opposition press conference held at Mal Road, Colombo today (26).

Technically, this incident is not a "hacking" attack but resembles a "Phishing Attack" or "Business Email Compromise" (BEC) common in the business sector. Champika Ranawaka further stated that the government is attempting to portray this as a cyberattack to protect the high-level officials who authorized the transaction.
