Sri Lanka, Oct. 11 -- Minister of Justice, National Integration, and Prison Affairs Harshana Nanayakkara, stated that the conditions inside Sri Lankan prisons are currently unfit for human habitation.

The Minister made this remark in Parliament while responding to a question and supplementary questions raised by Member of Parliament Dharmapriya Dissanayake on October 8.

Minister Nanayakkara highlighted the severe issue of overcrowding and vowed to take swift action to improve the infrastructure.

"There is a massive crowd in the prisons. We will quickly take steps to improve the conditions of those buildings. It is my opinion that, truly, a human being cannot live inside the prisons," the Minister stated.
