Sri Lanka, Aug. 27 -- The Mediation (Civil and Commercial Disputes) Bill has been approved by the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Public Administration, Justice, and Civil Security, the Sri Lankan Parliament has announced.

The approval was granted when the committee met in Parliament on the 22nd of this month under the chairmanship of MP NajithIndika.

Officials from the Ministry of Justice and National Integration explained that the previous Commercial Mediation Centre Act No. 44 of 2000, which was specifically created to establish a centre for commercial mediation, could not be implemented due to technical and other limitations.
