Mattala's annual loss revealed before the President
Sri Lanka, July 17 -- A special discussion on the progress of the Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation in 2026 and the Budget allocations for 2027 took place on July 15 at the Presidential Secretariat, chaired by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The Mattala Airport currently incurs a loss of about 6 to 7 million rupees per day, which amounts to approximately 4 billion rupees annually, the meeting revealed.
Alternative proposals to overcome this situation were presented to the president, the President's Media Division (PMD) stated in a release.
Investment proposals for the Mattala Airport are currently called, and the related activities can be completed by 2027, the meeting noted.
