Sri Lanka, Sept. 5 -- The government has generated a revenue of Rs. 95 million from fines imposed during raids conducted to curb the "rice mafia," the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has announced.

The CAA stated that 2,800 raids were carried out between January and August of this year, with 915 of them specifically targeting the sale of rice at exorbitant prices.

The majority of these operations were conducted in the Gampaha and Colombo districts.

The authority further added that raids and investigations are continuing in all districts to identify and apprehend traders who sell rice at high prices or hoard stocks.
