Manufacturing slows, services sector gains pace
Sri Lanka, July 16 -- Sri Lanka's manufacturing and services sectors expanded in June, though the growth momentum cooled down compared to the previous month, according to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
The compiler noted that the Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index recorded a value of 53 in June, down from the 56.6 logged in May 2026, yet still signaling continuous growth.
New orders during the month remained virtually flat, causing the respective sub-index to hit the neutral threshold.
Production continued its upward trajectory, heavily supported by the food and beverages manufacturing segment.
Headcount trends showed little variation as the employment sub-index hovered near the neutral line.
