Sri Lanka, Feb. 27 -- Upul Ranjith Piyankara was sentenced to death today (27) by Gampaha High Court Judge Rashmi Singappuli for the murder of his wife in the Maligawatta area of Kirindiwela.

The Attorney General filed indictments against the accused for the killing of Sujeewa Pushpakumari on or around October 4, 2008.

Evidence presented in court revealed that following a dispute in their bedroom, the man struck his wife with a grinding stone.

Kirindiwela Police discovered the body inside a garbage pit behind the house after the incident.

The judge issued the sentence after concluding that the prosecution proved all charges against the accused beyond a reasonable doubt.
