Man remanded for killing mother who stopped him selling TV for drug money
Sri Lanka, Oct. 19 -- A 29-year-old man was remanded until the 30th over the killing of his mother, who died after she tried to stop him taking the family television to sell it to buy drugs.
The Wattala Magistrate's Court ordered the remand. The victim was 58-year-old Susila de Silva of Hekitta, Wattala, where the crime took place.
Police told the court the suspect had taken the television from the house to sell it to raise money for drugs, and that his mother strongly objected and tried to stop him. The man then assaulted her severely, and she was rushed to the Ragama Teaching Hospital, where she died of her injuries.
