SriLanka, April 1 -- A man died following a wild elephant attack today (01) in the Unnichchiya area of Aiththiyamalai in the Batticaloa district.

Police identify the deceased as 69-year-old Aiyadurai Kandasamy, a resident of Mundalamadu, Kannankuda, Vavunathivu.

The attack occurred while he remained in a hut to protect a paddy field located at the 8th mile post on Sippimadu Road, Unnichchiya, which belongs to a resident of Batticaloa.

Sinnathamby Samithamby, a neighbouring landowner, witnessed the incident and alerted the Aiththiyamalai Police Station.

Police are conducting further investigations.
