Sri Lanka, Oct. 10 -- New research has revealed a staggering 60 % of schoolchildren in Sri Lanka are suffering from depression.
The findings, made public by Professor Miyuru Chandradasa, President of the Sri Lanka College of Psychiatrists, indicate a significant mental health crisis among the nation's youth. The data also suggests that the problem is particularly acute in higher grades, where 24 % of students are reportedly affected.
Professor Chandradasa attributed this significant mental stress to several factors, highlighting the intense pressure of education, family issues at home, the impact of social media use, and the pervasive problem of physical abuse against children.
