Sri Lanka, Oct. 12 -- The market price of lime has risen sharply over the past few weeks, with a kilogramme retailing for a very high price of around Rs.3,000 in Colombo and many other areas.

Lime cultivation is mainly concentrated in the dry zone.

Typically, a kilogramme of lime sells for between Rs.200 and Rs.300.

Traders point out that the main reason for the rapid price increase over several weeks is the decrease in the lime harvest due to a lack of rain.

Meanwhile, the price of eggs in the market is currently decreasing.

Small and medium-scale egg producers have stated that they are able to supply an egg to traders for Rs.18.
