Kollupitiya phone haul worth millions hidden in secret storehouse
Sri Lanka, July 23 -- Over 300 smart mobile phones valued at over 100 million rupees seized yesterday (22) have been discovered hidden inside a secret storehouse constructed within a shopping complex in Kollupitiya, the Walana Central Anti-Corruption Striking Unit revealed.
Police stated that at the time of the raid, the owner attempted to offer 10 million rupees as a bribe to police officers.
The suspect, a 52-year-old resident of Dehiwala, was arrested there.
The unit added that the stock of mobile phones seized by police were phones illegally imported into the country without paying customs duties.
