Kavadi dancer arrested with drugs during Devinuwara procession
Sri Lanka, July 28 -- A member of a Kavadi dance troupe participating in the annual procession of the Devinuwara Utpalawanna Sri Vishnu Maha Devalaya was arrested with drugs this afternoon, according to Gandara Police.
Police stated that a drum player from a Kavadi troupe that arrived from Negombo was taken into custody with the narcotics.
The arrested suspect is scheduled to be presented in court today.
The Police Media Division noted that special search operations regarding perahera security remain implemented today, with over 1500 security personnel deployed for protection.
Meanwhile, a correspondent reported that elephants were absent from the fifth 'Peli' procession held yesterday.
