Sri Lanka, July 6 -- Justice Minister Harshana Nanayakkara says he fully accepts responsibility, in his capacity as minister, for the unrest and clash that took place inside the Negombo Prison.

He made these remarks during a special statement to the media today.

The Minister confirmed that both inmates and prison staff were among those killed in the clash.

He expressed deep shock over the loss of lives, regardless of who the victims were, and extended his condolences to the families of the deceased.

"This happened in an institution under my charge. Therefore, I must take full responsibility for it. Having taken responsibility, we must work to resolve this issue," the Minister emphasised.
