ITAK welcomes UN Human Rights Chief update
Sri Lanka, Sept. 8 -- The Written Update made by the High Commissioner for Human Rights at the opening session of the UN Human Rights Council was welcomed insofar as it expressed disappointment regarding the lack of progress on accountability for war time abuses and other related matters concerning the Tamil People, including the release of military occupied lands, forcible disappearances, release of political prisoners, and the Chemmani Mass Grave.
General Secretary of Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi M A Sumanthiran noted in a statement dated 8 September 2026 that the update references the fact that provincial council elections have not been held for a long time.
