Sri Lanka, July 30 -- Initial investigations into the deaths of Champika Nilantha, the Opposition Leader of the Yatinuwara Pradeshiya Sabha, his wife, and eldest daughter, suggest that the tragedy was not caused by a Rs. 5 million loan from a businessman, and that he had not, in fact, obtained such a loan from the individual.
This information has emerged from investigations based on a four-page letter written by Champika Nilantha outlining the reasons that led to him allegedly killing his wife and daughter before taking his own life.
The investigation is being conducted by Gampola Divisional Police Superintendent Erik Perera, under the supervision of Central Province Deputy Inspector General Sudath Masinghe.
