Sri Lanka, Aug. 5 -- Police investigations have revealed that a group of individuals arrested in Akuregoda, Pelawatte, were Indian nationals operating an online cricket betting syndicate.
The group arrived in Sri Lanka in June and July. They rented a two-story house in Akuregoda and used computers and mobile phones to run the illegal online betting operation.
Police discovered that the group was even running bets during the recently concluded fifth Test cricket match between England and India. Information from their devices has also helped police identify the mastermind behind the racket, who is based in India.
