Sri Lanka, Sept. 19 -- An increase in rainy conditions is expected in the south-western parts of the island over the coming days starting today (19), according to the Department of Meteorology.

Showers are expected to occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North Western provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya districts.

The department stated that heavy rainfall of about 100 mm is likely at certain places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.

Meanwhile, wind speeds in the sea areas off the coast extending from Matara through Hambantota to Pottuvil may increase up to 50 to 60 km/h at times, with these sea areas expected to be rough at times.
