Sri Lanka, Oct. 22 -- The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has established new maximum retail prices (MRPs) for various types of imported rice.
The new prices, which came into force on October 21, 2025, were announced via a recent gazette notification.
The move aims to regulate the cost of imported staple grains.
Under the new rules, the price ceiling for Raw Rice is set at Rs. 210 per kilogramme.
Nadu is capped at Rs. 220 per kilogramme, while Samba will cost no more than Rs. 230 per kilogramme.
Furthermore, Ponni Samba, which is considered the equivalent of the local Keeri Samba, has an MRP of Rs. 240 per kilogramme.
The highest price cap is for Kiri Ponni or Paal Ponni, set at Rs. 255 per kilogramme.
