Sri Lanka, Oct. 20 -- Inspector General of Police, Priyantha Weerasooriya, has urged all police officers to use their legal authority to serve the public and uphold the rule of law, warning them against any misuse of their powers.
The IGP made his comments today (20) while inaugurating the new Proceeds of Crime Investigation Division (PCID).
The division's launch follows the implementation of the Proceeds of Crime Act No. 05 of 2025, which the IGP described as an unprecedentedly powerful piece of legislation within the country's legal system.
