Sri Lanka, June 22 -- A special ceremony to welcome Sri Lankan javelin champion Rumesh Tharanga, who won three gold medals and one silver medal after participating in four of the world's leading sports tournaments, took place grandly today (22) in Horana town.

The talented athlete, a resident of the Haltota area, is the son of veteran athlete Thushara Premakeerthi.

Arrangements were made to escort Rumesh Tharanga, who returned to the motherland after bringing numerous victories to the country, in a spectacular vehicular procession from the Bandaragama, Gelanigama expressway entrance along the Panadura - Ratnapura road to Horana town.
