Sri Lanka, May 25 -- A modern T-56 assault rifle, which had been coated with grease, wrapped in polythene and buried, has been recovered by the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) from the Somawathiya reserve in Welikanda.

The operation was carried out by officers of Investigation Unit 05 based on information received by the Intelligence Unit of the Colombo Crime Division.

The weapon was discovered during an ongoing search operation in the Anandakulama reserve in the Batticaloa area under a court warrant, following a separate confidential tip received by the Officer-in-Charge.
