Sri Lanka, Oct. 17 -- The Department of Meteorology says showers or thundershowers are likely in many parts of the island after 1 p.m. today (17).

According to the department, fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 millimetres may occur at some locations in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North Central provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee and Mullaitivu districts, due to the prevailing weather conditions.

Showers are also possible during the morning in coastal areas of the Western Province and in the Galle, Puttalam, Mannar and Jaffna districts.

The department further warns that misty conditions may develop in some areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces during the early hours of the morning.
