Sri Lanka, Oct. 18 -- Heavy rainfall that occurred yesterday (October 17) in the Bogawanthalawa Maha Eliya Reserve, a major catchment area for the Castlereigh Reservoir, caused the water level of the Keselgamu Oya to rise and overflow, resulting in the flooding of numerous low-lying areas in the Bogawanthalawa region.
The failure of the drainage canals to effectively carry water from Bogawanthalawa to the Keselgamu Oya has caused the flooding of estate roads and several houses located in the low-lying areas of the Bogawanthawa Kotiyagala Estate.
Furthermore, a section of the tea estate in the Bogawanthalawa Bridwell Estate has been affected by a landslide, blocking the access road to the estate.
