Sri Lanka, March 18 -- Health sector trade unions have voiced concerns over recent government measures, urging the provision of holiday allowances and a dedicated fuel quota to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services.
Ravi Kumudesh, Co-convener of the Health Services Trade Union Alliance, emphasised that health workers must be fairly compensated if required to work on public holidays. "If we are required to work on a holiday, the government must pay the relevant holiday allowance," he said.
Kumudesh also highlighted the need for a separate fuel allocation system for healthcare staff, warning that essential services cannot continue without guaranteed fuel access.
