Sri Lanka, Aug. 17 -- A fire has broken out in the Thalapathkanda forest along the Habarana-Trincomalee road, destroying between 80 and 100 acres of land.
According to the Habarana Police OIC, a section of the fire has been extinguished by a joint effort from the Sri Lanka Army and police.
The OIC also reported that a new plume of black smoke is visible near the Thalapathkanda railway line, and authorities are currently investigating the area.
No casualties have been reported.
Police suspect the fire was intentionally started by an individual.
