Sri Lanka, Oct. 20 -- The government has decided to implement a programme to install a new technical camera system on trains to prevent elephant collisions.

This programme involves installing thermal imaging cameras on trains, aiming to reduce elephant collisions on railway tracks.

As the first step, the programme will be implemented on the Batticaloa railway line, with the aim of preventing the frequent elephant accidents that occur in that region, the Ministry stated.

The Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation is leading this programme, with direct support from government technical institutions and the Railway Department.
