Sri Lanka, Aug. 22 -- The Sri Lankan government is prioritising the mitigation of human-elephant conflict, with dedicated funding in its current budget.

During a recent parliamentary discussion, it was highlighted that integrated efforts between railway and wildlife officials are underway to address the increasing number of wild elephant deaths, particularly those caused by train collisions.

To tackle this issue, new technology is being trialled, including AI-driven systems and thermal cameras, which are being tested on trains.

These devices are designed to detect elephants on the tracks and alert train drivers, aiming to prevent these fatal accidents.
