Sri Lanka, Oct. 8 -- The entire country of Sri Lanka has now been designated as an African Swine Fever, or ASF, risk area.

An extraordinary gazette notification has been issued by the Director General of Animal Production and Health, officially declaring this measure to stop the disease's further proliferation.

The highly contagious viral disease has been detected across several Divisional Secretariat Divisions over the past few months.

Under the Animal Diseases Act, Number 59 of 1992, all districts are now classed as ASF risk areas, and pigs are deemed disease risk animals.

The gazette came into effect on October 03 2025 and is scheduled to be valid for a maximum period of three months.
