Sri Lanka, Aug. 27 -- The Attorney General's Department has informed the Supreme Court that the gazette notice for the recruitment of station masters for Sri Lanka Railways has been submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers for amendment, to allow women to apply for the position.
The information was presented today (28) when a fundamental rights petition filed by two women, Ayeshani Jayawardena and Suresh Vidusha, was called before a three-judge Supreme Court bench consisting of Chief Justice PrithipPadmanSoorasena, KumuduniWickramasinghe, and Sampath Wijeratne.
Senior State Counsel NayanatharaBalapatabendi, appearing on behalf of the Attorney General, requested a later date to report on the progress of the amendment.
