Sri Lanka, Aug. 7 -- It has been revealed before the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) that former Chief Minister of the Sabaragamuwa Province, Mahipala Herath, had used 4,700 liters of fuel per month between 2014 and 2017, far exceeding his entitled quota of 1,700 liters.
This unauthorized usage amounted to a cost of Rs. 850,170, according to statements made when officials from the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council were summoned before the committee.
Meanwhile, Speaker of Parliament Jagath Wickramaratne informed the House that Aravinda Senarath has resigned from his position as Chairman of the COPA Committee.
The resignation follows an agreement to hand over the chairmanship to a member of the opposition.
