Sri Lanka, Sept. 19 -- Four youths, including three young women and a young man, have died after being swept away by a strong current while bathing in the Maha Oya in the Badalgama area this afternoon (19).

Police stated that all four bodies have been recovered.

The victims, who were residents of Badulla and Haputale, were employed at a local farm in Badalgama.

According to the police, a group of five individuals had gone to the river to bathe, though one young man refrained from entering the water.

The tragedy occurred when one of the young women was caught in a strong current while swimming.

The young man and the other two young women were subsequently swept away while attempting to rescue her.
