Sri Lanka, Sept. 6 -- Former State Minister Shasheendra Rajapaksa, who is currently in remand custody, was admitted to the prison hospital yesterday afternoon due to high blood pressure and fatigue.

This was confirmed by Prisons Spokesperson.

Rajapaksa was arrested on August 6 for allegedly misusing his influence to unlawfully obtain Rs.88.5 million in compensation for damage caused by protesters to a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna political office in Kiribbanwewa in 2022.

The land on which the office was located is said to belong to the Mahaweli Authority.

He faces charges of criminal misuse of state property.

A court ordered his remand until September 12.
