Sri Lanka, Oct. 9 -- The Homagama High Court Judge, Krishanthi Amaratunga, has sentenced a former chief cashier of a state bank branch in Kaduwela to 35 years of rigorous imprisonment, to be served concurrently in 15 years, after finding him guilty of four indictments, including the criminal misappropriation of over Rs.130 million for personal use.

Specifically, the accused was found guilty of misappropriating a sum of Rs.135,102,975 deposited at the state bank.

In addition to the prison sentence, the High Court Judge ordered the convict to pay the entire misappropriated amount of Rs.135,102,975 as compensation to the state bank. Failure to pay the compensation will result in an additional four years of rigorous imprisonment.
