Sri Lanka, Aug. 24 -- The Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, stated that the current drug shortage in the country is a result of the previous government failing to follow proper tender procedures when importing medicines.
He said that if the previous government had called for proper tenders, the country would not be facing this issue today.
To manage the temporary shortage, the government has allocated Rs. 35 billion for regional-level medicine purchases.
He added that discussions are also underway with several countries to secure drug donations from time to time.
