Sri Lanka, Aug. 11 -- Thambuttegama Police reported that a live, foreign-manufactured hand grenade was discovered in an irrigation canal yesterday (10).

The discovery was made by four individuals who were fishing with a net in the main canal that supplies water from the Rajanganaya Tank to the Yaya Hatara area.

They found the grenade entangled in their net after about two hours of fishing.

After the fishermen alerted the police via the 119 emergency number, officers from the Thambuttegama Police and the Bomb Disposal Unit of the Ulukkuluma Police Special Task Force were dispatched to the scene.

The live "SFG 87" hand grenade was inspected and then safely defused in a deserted area in "Lunuoya."
