Sri Lanka, Aug. 19 -- Police Narcotics Bureau officers at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) arrested two Sri Lankan businessmen this morning (19) for illegally importing foreign cigarettes worth over Rs. 6 million.
The two suspects, aged 45 and 33, are residents of the China Bay and Mullipothana areas of Trincomalee.
According to the police, the men purchased the cigarettes in Dubai and traveled to Sri Lanka via Kuwait.
They were found with 198 cartons containing a total of 39,600 foreign-manufactured cigarettes, which were hidden inside four large cardboard boxes.
The suspects are scheduled to be presented before the Negombo Magistrate's Court tomorrow (20).
