Sri Lanka, Feb. 7 -- Fishermen engaged in beach seine (Ma-del) operations have vowed to continue their Satyagraha outside the Presidential Secretariat for a third day after failed negotiations with the Ministry of Fisheries.
The All Island Beach Seine Owners' Association, led by Secretary Dilruk Fernando, expressed frustration that yesterday's discussion with the Ministry Secretary and Director General ended without a resolution regarding the ban on mechanised equipment like tractors and winches.
In a bid for higher-level intervention, a representative group met with the Archbishop of Colombo, His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, who has reportedly pledged to discuss their grievances directly with the President.
