Sri Lanka, April 25 -- Finance Ministry Secretary Harshana Suriyapperuma should step down after the exposure of a $2.5 million cyber theft, according to the association 'Free Lawyers'. Head of the group, Maithri Gunaratne, informed a daily newspaper that the Secretary to the Treasury bears responsibility because he grants final approval for loan repayments.

While Gunaratne did not rule out filing a complaint with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), he stated the group will wait to gather more information before taking the next step. Current reports indicate the $2.5 million moved to an account in a foreign bank, though the parties behind the theft remain unknown.
